James Ross Hesseltine

Died – Sept. 18, 2019

TOPEKA — James Ross Hesseltine died Sept. 18, 2019, at Midland Hospice Care Center, Topeka. He was 72.

He was the son of Ralph Hesseltine and Allene Coffman Hesseltine. He grew up and was a lifelong resident of the Overbrook area, graduating from Overbrook Rural High School with the class of 1965. He later graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in civil engineering in 1975.

Ilene Kay Freeman Mueller

Nov. 2, 1940 – Sept. 16, 2019

OSAGE CITY — Ilene Kay Freeman Mueller died Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, at Osage Nursing Manor, Osage City. She was 78.

She was born Nov. 2, 1940, at Santa Maria, Calif., the daughter of Milton B. “Pete” and Wilma Mae Cokeley Freeman. She attended Osage City High School until the 10th grade.

She married Edwin C. Mueller Aug. 23, 1957, at Osage City. He survives of the home.

She worked at Hallmark Cards as a napkin wrapper. She was a former Scout Commissioner for the Jayhawk Area Conference and Coast Guard Auxiliary Officer.

Sally Palmer

July 2, 1934 – Sept. 4, 2019?

SHAWNEE — Sally Palmer, Shawnee, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, at her home. She was 85.

She was born July 2, 1934, at Augusta, the daughter of Allen and Edith Ashcraft. She graduated with the Melvern class of 1953. She attended Emporia State University for two years before taking the position of teacher at Rapp School in Osage County, a one-room schoolhouse. After two years at Rapp School, she moved to Chicago and took a job with Book Supply Company.

Donald W. Jones

May 7, 1951 – Sept. 13, 2019

LYNDON — Donald W. Jones died Friday, Sept. 13, 2019, at his home in Lyndon. He was 68.

He was born May 7, 1951, at Emporia, the son of Donald and Doris Burns Jones. He lived all of his life in the Lyndon community. He graduated from Lyndon High School in 1969.

He worked as an over the road truck driver for Don Jones and Son Trucking for many years and then worked as an equipment operator for Kansas Department of Transportation.

Joy Lee Clark Schmidt

Sept. 9, 1956 – Sept. 12, 2019

OVERBROOK — Joy Lee Clark Schmidt, Scranton, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 63.

She was born Sept. 9, 1956, at Enid, Okla., the daughter of Robert Earl and Eunice Ann Fiser Clark. She was a 1974 graduate of Jackson Heights High School and received her Bachelors in Education and Masters in Counseling from the University of Kansas.

Frances V. Kunard

April 25, 1928 – Aug. 29, 2019

ECKERT, Colo. — Frances V. Kunard, formerly of Overbrook, and Topeka, passed into eternal life Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at Horizons Care Center, Eckert, Colo. She was 91.

She was born April 25, 1928, at Augusta, Iowa, the daughter of Edward L. and Biddy Lou Nina Richardson Kentch. She was a member of Carbondale Baptist Church and later an active member of Northland Christian Church, Topeka.

Loyal Fredrick Seifert

April 1, 1936 – Aug. 30, 2019

TOPEKA — Loyal Fredrick Seifert, Osage City, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Midland Hospice Care, Topeka. He was 83.

He was born April 1, 1936, at Aline, Okla., the son of John F. and Maggie Prisk Seifert. He graduated from Labette County High School, Altamont.

He married Margaret A. Terril Aug. 1, 1954, on a family farm near Altamont. She survives of the home. To this union two daughters were born, Linda and Brenda.

Dale Melvin Davies

Nov. 24, 1925 – Aug. 20, 2019

READING — Dale Melvin Davies died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019, at his home in Reading. He was 93.

He was born Nov. 24, 1925, at Emporia, the son of Jacob Charles and Olive Jernigan Davies. He began attending Reading United Methodist Church as a child and continued throughout his life. He attended Reading High School and graduated with the class of 1943.

Ruth Anderson

Jan. 12, 1925 – Aug. 20, 2019

TOPEKA — Ruth Anderson, Overbrook, died Aug. 20, 2019, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. She was 94.

She was born Jan. 12, 1925, at Exeter, Calf., the daughter of Miles Daniel Durkee and Percie Jane Severn Durkee. Her mother died just three months after Ruth was born. She grew up living with various relatives in Nebraska and Iowa as well as attending a boarding school in Gravette, Ark.

David W. Wilson

Nov. 1, 1955 – Aug. 17, 2019

LYNDON — David W. Wilson departed this life Aug. 17, 2019, at his home in Lyndon. He was 63.

He was born Nov. 1, 1955, at Ottawa, the son of Robert K. and Betty J. Peterson Wilson. He lived in Ottawa for nearly 30 years before moving to Lyndon in 1982.
